The town burgess and commissioners on Monday approved a request to hold the third annual Francie's Family 5K Run/Walk on March 17 at Middletown Park off Coblentz Road.


Butterfly meadow honors Billotti-Wood family

More than 30 volunteers showed up for the two-day effort. The Frederick County Nature Council received a donation of more than $4,000 from the Billotti-Wood family for the meadow. The funds were raised by a 5K run organized by family and friends.

The project began in September after the Frederick County Nature Council received a donation of more than $4,000 from the Billotti-Woods family to buy and install a 1 1/2 acre butterfly meadow at the Catoctin Creek Park and Nature Center. The funds were raised from a 5K run organized by friends and family of the Billotti-Woods.

A month later, Billotti-Wood, 33, and her three children were found dead. Authorities concluded that Billotti-Wood's husband had taken the lives of his family members before he took his own life.

Friends and family of Billotti-Wood, a Middletown native, had a 5K race in their memory in March. Cassandra Billotti explained to the town council Monday night that $8,000 of the proceeds will be used to buy playground equipment for Memorial Park.
